Pommes de Jong’

2007-2012 The humble potato, which she grows in her own vegetable garden in the Bourbonnais area of France, had waited some time to be turned into a work of art. In fact, it turns up in a natural form in a series of paintings made after Malevich in 2001, as the hair of the farmer’s wife (‘Potato Hair’). This in turn gave rise to the painted dialogue (‘Harvest’) with the pioneering Russian artist The recent work involving potatoes is the ‘Pommes de Jong’ series, in which potatoes and their shoots have been dried slowly over a period of two years and submerged in a bath of platin or gold becoming jewelery.

Life and Times…Recent Work

Suzanne Biederberg Gallery 29|09|2012 – 3|10|2012 The Suzanne Biederberg Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition of new work from Jacqueline de Jong, and features a selection her latest pantings, drawings and graphics. They are largely inspired by de Jong’s discovery this year of an old steam train that once traversed the countryside of France, were she has a home.

‘Baked potatoes’

(Biennale di Ceramica dell’Arte Contemporanea, Albisola), 2006-2007 In 2006-2007 Jacqueline de Jong was invited to take part in the Biennale di Ceramica dell’arte contemporanea in Albisola by curator Roberto Orth. Together with German artist Jonathan Meese she worked in this known Italian centre for ceramics to produce works for the home and garden of Danish artist Asger Jorn (1914-1973). De Jong produced the installation ‘Baked Potatoes’ as a surrounding for the garden pond. Meese made ceramic objects for the home and bath house.

Internationale Situationniste

In 1959 Jacqueline de Jong became involved with Danish artist Asger Jorn. Through him she met the Gruppe Spur, the German section of the Internationale Situationniste. She met Guy Debord in 1960 in Amsterdam.
de Jong had in 1958 become acquainted with the artist Constant and other Dutch members of the I.S. – Armando and the architect Har Oudejans – while working for the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. From 1957 until 1962 the role of the artists in the I.S. was of great significance, particularly Jorn and Constant, the Belgian Maurice Wijckaert, the Italian Pinot Gallizio, German “Gruppe Spur”, Jacqueline de Jong, the British Ralph Romney and Gordon Fazekerly, and the Scandinavians Ansgar Eelde, J.J. Thorsen, Jørgen Nash.
 London, 1960

ERRATA: .

..
The Situationist Times (1962-1967)
Facsimile Edition (Boo-Hooray, 2013)

Jacqueline de Jong was the editor of the original Situationist Time. She approved Boo-Hooray’s production of a facsimile in January 2012, but she was not involved with the production of the facsimile, besides providing feedback regarding the bookplate (ex libris).

Below errata is added as Jacqueline de Jong does not agree with the predicate “facsimile” of  The Situationist Times made by Boo-Hooray. In several crucial respects, the issue differs too far from the original.
All issues
-The use of white margins around all the spreads, and the bleeding of text and images into the binding, does not represent the original format or layout. Moreover, in the original publications, each issue featured a variety of papers of differing weight, texture, and opacity; this variation has not been retained in the facsimile. The Boo-Hooray branding on the back cover and editorial text on the inside cover of all issues was added by Boo-Hooray and was not part of the original publication.
Issue no. 1
– Front cover: Triskele symbol printed in mauve square lacking.n.p.: Pages of Peter Schat’s “Entelechie 2” were trimmed to half-width, revealing subsequent pages in the original.
– Inside back cover: Pierre Wemaere drawing is reduced in size.
Issue no. 2
-Cover: Blue does not accurately match the original color.
– Inside front cover: Lacks collage by Jacques Prévert.
– “La Dérive de Polydore Bouffione” were originally trimmed to half width– Page 37 of Peter Schat’s “Signalement” appears out of sequence due to omission of fold-out format used in original.– Inside back cover: Image of an atomic bomb and colophon lacking.
Issue no. 3
– Inside front cover: Colophon lacking at bottom left of page.
Issue no. 4
– Transparent overlay, printed in red, lacking
– Double fold-out formatting  for “The Labyrinth” and “Spielplan und Musik”) omitted, resulting in irregularities with sequence of pages.
Issue no. 5
– Cover: Lacking wrappers and silver sticker on inner cover.
Issue no. 6
– Cover: Original was in Yves Klein blue.
Appendix
– The transcription of de Jong’s “Critique on the Political Practise of Détournement” is not by Roberto Orth. It can be found on the Not Bored and the Free University Copenhagen websites.
